Keith’s DX Report

Good morning all as I write this report the SFI is 275 A index is 7 and the K index is 1 which is not bad at all.

Although I have heard that there is some major solar activity imminent which has the potential to disrupt radio communications for a while watch this space as they say.

10 and 12m have provided some good openings of late during daylight and 20m open most days into the evening with 40m inter G during daylight hours and good DX opportunities after dark.

Some of the more interesting DX I have worked since the last report as follows.

Brazil on 40m 9/9
Japan on 12m 11/9
Asiatic Russia on 12m 11/9
Madagascar on 10m 30/9
Japan on 10m 2/10
Norfolk Island on 10m 2/10
Canada on 10m 2/10

Well that’s it till next time good DX and best 73 Keith M0JYP

As I write this latest HF report the SFI is 228 A index 9 and K index 1 not bad at all.

There have been some good openings of late for SSB DX chasers like myself 10 and 12m have been open a bit more and as expected at this time of year the higher bands give the best opportunity for DX during daylight hrs with 40 coming alive after dark with 20 and 15m also open after dark.

Some of the best DX I have worked since the last report on SSB as follows.

Georgia on 10m 30/8
West Malaysia on 20m 30/8
Costa Rica on 12m 2/9
St. Paul Island on 12m 4/9
Lebanon on 10m 5/9
United States on 10m 6/9
Guadeloupe on 10m 6/9
Cyprus on 17m 6/9
Taiwan on 15m 8/9

Well that’s it for now 73 and good DX Keith M0JYP

As I write this latest report the SFI is 248 A index 12 and K index 1 which on the face of it is quite good and should provide some good DX opportunities on SSB.

During daylight hrs the higher bands should provide the best chance and after dark 40 and 20m also some good openings after dark on 17 and 15m. This week has seen some sunspot activity which earlier in the week caused the bands to be very poor hopefully they should improve.

Some good DX on SSB I have worked since the last report as follows

Peru on 20m 6/8
Madeira island on 15m 7/8
Faroe Islands on 20m 7/8
Saudi Arabia on 20m 7/8
St Kitts and Nevis on 20m 7/8
Australia on 20m 8/8
Argentina on 20m 9/8
Kuwait on 20m 9/8

Well that’s it for now until next time 73 and good DX Keith M0JYP

Thanks Keith,

Good morning all.

As I write this latest report the SFI is 247, the A index is 10 and the K index is 1 which isn’t too bad unfortunately for SSB operators like myself the bands have not been producing particularly good results of late.

The high bands 10 and 12 m have been pretty poor however there has been some good openings on 40 20 15 and 17m best results seem to be later in the day 20m producing good results after dark however none of the bands are as good as they were earlier in the year in my humble opinion.

Some of my better SSB contacts since last time as follows:

Morocco on 15m 20/7
Gibraltar on 20m 21/7
European Russia on 17m 24/7
Romania on 20m on 2/8
Czech Republic on 15 and 20m 4/8
Estonia on 17m 5/8
Kenya on 20m 5/8

Well that’s it for now fingers crossed for some more good openings until next time 73 and good DX

As I write this HF report the SFI is 234 the A index is 5 and the K index is 1
Which you would think make the HF bands good however on SSB not the case there are one or two openings on 20-15m and 12-10m during daylight hrs but nothing brilliant.

After dark 80-15m provide the best DX as you would expect but again not brilliant at least not from my QTH.

Some of the more interesting DX I have worked SSB since last time as follows:

Albania on 20m 9/7
Japan on 20m 10/7

Good morning all not much has changed on the HF bands since my last report.

As I write this report the SFI is 171 the A index is 6 and the K index 1.

The bands seem stuck in the summer doldrums with the higher bands 17-10m providing some openings during the day and 80-15m opening later in the day with the odd opening of 6m later in the afternoon to early evening.

This certainly seems to be the case on SSB.

I’ve not done much DX of late some of my better SSB contacts as follows:

Corsica on 10m 23/6/24
Moldova on 15m 23/6/24
Greenland on 20m 26/6/24
Cyprus on 20m 26/6/24

Well that’s it for now till next time good DX to all and 73 Keith M0JYP

Morning all.

This is the first HF report for a while as I’ve not been quite as active as I normally am on SSB due to the bands not being in great shape the summer doldrums sun activity etc.

As I write the SFI is at 203 A index 7 K index 1 which isn’t bad some of the better stations I have worked on SSB as follows:-

San Marino on 20m 5/6
Luxembourg on 40m 6/6
Lebanon on 20m 17/6
Iran on 20m 17/6

Speaking of Iran the station I worked was EP2EPL, he confirmed the contact on QRZ and there was a copy of his licence on his page, however clublog would not accept the contact deeming it invalid so I contacted clublog with my findings and they agreed it was indeed valid and changed it on there system. So listen out for EP2EPL a new operator from Iran only licenced to operate 30 watts ERP.

Iran is quite a rare DXCC that you don’t hear that often I have only worked Ian twice over the years.

That’s it for now so 73 and good DX.

Good morning all this is the first HF report for quite some time as the band conditions have been very poor of late due to lots of solar activity maybe some of you were lucky enough to spot the northern lights recently I unfortunately did not.

Over the last few days I have started to make some DX contacts as things begin to settle down (hopefully) 6m notably has been open to Europe on more than on occasion the best time for openings on six seems to to be late afternoon to early evening indeed most bands although noisy seem better later in the day at the moment.

As I write the solar flux index is 216 and the A index is 10 at one point the A index got in the two hundreds which is very poor because as we know the lower the better as far as the A index is concerned.

Below are some good contacts made on SSB

Spain on 6m 14/5
Italy on 6m 14/5
Brazil on 17m 15/5
Trinidad and Tobago on 15m 15/5
United Arab Emirates on 20m 15/5
Azores on 20m 15/5

Well that’s it for now till next time best 73 and good DX.

Madeira Islands on 20m 20/3

Qatar on 10 and 12m 20 and 21/3

Thailand on 12m 21/3

DX World Weekly Bulletins

Morning all

The HF SFI index has risen slightly to 177 and the A index is 6 at time of writing. Which isn’t bad after the antenna problem of last week the leg of my aerial 51 is now back up to about 6m on a tactical pole at the corner of the house rather than tied to a bin. This is much better as I don’t have to rely on the window cleaner to attach it when and if it comes down again also better for EMF compliance, see photos of main mast and the two legs attached to poles.

Some interesting DX I have worked on SSB since last report as follows:

Grenada on 17m 14/3
Grenada on 12m 14/3
Lithuania on 17m 14/3
Sweden on 20m 15/3
Costa Rica on 12m 16/3
Jordan on 12m 16/3
Morocco on 12m 17/3
Uruguay on 12m 17/3
Kuwait on 40m 19/3

Alan G0ROW has also made some contacts with his compromised antenna with QSOs into Grenada, Belize, Latvia, and Ukraine. Alan has told me it won’t be long until his antenna is back to full status very soon after the storm damage a few weeks ago.

Farid M0UNG continues to work some good QRP stations braving the elements at every opportunity well done Farid.

That’s all for now until next time 73 and good DX.

Morning all

This weeks HF report as follows the SFI index has taken a bit of a dip following some solar flares currently SFI 128 A index 9 which isn’t brilliant however I’m sure it will improve as we approach the WPX SSB contest at the end of the month over the Easter weekend.

My antenna has suffered a little in the wind and the long wire leg of my aerial 51 asymmetrical dipole has come away from the corner of the roof  waiting for the window cleaner to reattach on his next visit the leg is currently down the side of the house tied to the blue bin not the ideal configuration but it works.

Made some good contacts as  follows on SSB

Balearic Islands on 12m 2/3

North Macedonia Republic on 12m 11/3

Norway on 12m 12/3

Malawi on 10m 13/3

Grenada on 15m 13/3

That’s it for now until next time good DX and 73
